Title: |
Distance offset and temperature compensation of a Microwave Impulse Radar system. |
|
Abstract: |
In a Microwave Impulse Radar system, the received RF signal is directly downconverted to an audio signal using a phase coherent subsampling technique, which scales not only the operating frequency, but the time of flight. This is all covered under by McEwan in US Patent 5,519,400. However, a problem exists in that the threshold voltage of the CMOS inverter changes appreciably over temperature, causing a shift in the absolute measured distance of an object by the MIR system.
By using an eTC Rejustor in the voltage offset portion of the ramp signal, both the initial voltage offset can be programmed to set the “zero distance” of the system on a unit by unit basis, as well as a temperature coefficient that cancels the CMOS inverter temperature drift, providing for a more accurate system over temperature.
